THE WHY WE BUILD

The Edit and Modify project exists to create tools that empower everyone equally, without restriction. We deliberately design our applications to be free from the distractions of social media, unnecessary features, and comparative environments that can hinder creativity. These tools are built for everyone. We can create, distribute, and collaborate more easily than ever before but we firmly believe that your tools should enhance rather than interfere with your creative process.

::

We reject the notion that creators should pay monthly subscriptions just to access the basic tools of creation. While our codebase is not yet fully open source, Edit and Modify operates with open source principles at heart. All our tools are available:

::

  • Completely free of charge
  • Without advertising
  • With no subscription requirements or paywalls
  • With no account creation necessary

::

Our mission is to reduce barriers to creativity by offering lightweight, focused tools that put the emphasis back where it belongs - on your creative expression. The digital creation landscape has become increasingly monetised, with powerful tools locked behind recurring payments that limit accessibility. We believe this approach fundamentally contradicts the democratising potential of technology. Edit and Modify stands as a counterpoint to this trend - a reminder that creative tools can be both powerful and accessible.

::

We build our applications with intention, stripping away unnecessary complexity to reveal the essential functions that truly matter to creators. Each tool focuses on doing one thing exceptionally well rather than attempting to be everything to everyone. This philosophy extends to our user experience design, which emphasises clarity and intuition over feature bloat.

::

By creating these tools, we hope to inspire a shift in how creative software is developed and distributed. We envision a future where high-quality creative applications are accessible to students, emerging artists, hobbyists, and professionals alike—regardless of financial circumstances. The Edit and Modify project is our contribution toward that vision.

Edit and Modify is a Present Standards project created by James Wrigley as a personal endeavour. We are not a company, and we do not have any employees. I am an individual who shares a passion for creating tools that empower creativity.
